Delightfully impractical and (almost) obscenely oversized, this “scrunchie” is perhaps the only ‘trendy’ item on offer in Assemblage No. 001. Though it isn’t traditionally part of a place setting, I love the ceremony of tying one’s hair up before indulging in something delicious, especially when it’s something extra messy...and that’s exactly why it has a place at our table.

My younger sister kindled the idea for this piece…as a little girl she’d always pile her Rapunzel-esque hair on top of her head just moments before her food was served, crowning the messy ball of strands her “dinner roll” and letting her hair tumble back into place with a flourish only when she was finished (and only after dessert, of course).

While le SCRUNCH does make a fabulously ridiculous scrunchie, it also makes a dramatic (and functional!) bracelet, anklet (I love wearing one around each ankle, over plain black sandals or pumps), napkin ring or pet collar…or the tiniest + chicest goth wreath
